Located in Montagne-Saint-Emilion Château Franc Baudron has been in the Guimberteau family since 1923. This estate is about family, no billionaires or corporations involved here, just generations of farmers who have put their blood, sweat, and tears into their land. The family believes that all of those generations have each left their own footprint and today the newest generation consisting of Sophie Foray, her husband Charles, and her brother Vincent are beginning to leave their own. Committed to leaving the land better than they found it they have converted all of the vineyard sites to biodynamic viticulture and continue to strive for a complete self-sustaining environment.
The wines of Château Franc Baudron are true Bordeaux. Charles isn’t looking for an overripe, new world style (France should taste like France, not California), instead the wines show a confident power without having to slap you in the face. There is an elegance and balance to them that harkens back to an era of Bordeaux that existed before we began to value scores over terroir.
This place, people, and wines are beautiful.
